چکیده

Interferometric gravitational wave detectors could measure the frequency sweep of a binary inspiral [characterized by its chirp mass] to high accuracy. The observed chirp mass is the intrinsic chirp mass of the binary source multiplied by (1 + z), where z is the redshift of the source. Assuming a nonzero cosmological constant, we compute the expected redshift distribution of observed events for an advanced LIGO detector. We find that the redshift distribution has a robust and sizable dependence on the cosmological constant; the data from advanced LIGO detectors could provide an independent measurement of the cosmological constant. Fermilab-Pub-96/091-A, astro-ph/9605??? Gravitational lensing of gravitational waves from merging neutron star binaries

We discuss the gravitational lensing of gravitational waves from merging neutron star binaries, in the context of advanced LIGO type gravitational wave detectors. We consider properties of the expected observational data with cut on the signal-to-noise ratio ρ, i.e., ρ > ρ0. An advanced LIGO should see unlensed inspiral events with a redshift distribution with cut-off at a redshift zmax < 1 for...

A procedure is developed for the recovery of the inflationary potential over the interval that affects astrophysical scales (≈ 1 Mpc−10 4 Mpc). The amplitudes of the scalar and tensor metric perturbations and their power-spectrum indices, which can in principle be inferred from large-angle CBR anisotropy experiments and other cosmological data, determine the value of the inflationary potential ...

The Advanced LIGO timing system

Gravitational wave detection using a network of detectors relies upon the precise time stamping of gravitational wave signals. The relative arrival times between detectors are crucial, e.g. in recovering the source direction, an essential step in using gravitational waves for multi-messenger astronomy. Due to the large size of gravitational wave detectors, timing at different parts of a given d...

Models of string cosmology predict a stochastic background of gravitational waves with a spectrum that is strongly tilted towards high frequencies. I give simple approximate expressions for spectral densities of the cosmic background which can be directly compared with sensitivities of gravitational wave detectors.
